Choice is good, but I feel this option is going to be overkill for most people. 1080p is Blu-ray quality. I can see this being used well in very specialist cases and then abused by the enormous majority of Youtubers who will still be uploading crap but will now be compelled to upload ultra high resolution crap.
I bought a Godspeed You Black Emperor album (Lift your Skinny Fists) on the strength of the first song, which I still like- but I actually felt the album as a whole was a bit of a letdown.
I'm pretty bored with most rock, post or otherwise, these days. There are still good bands around, but nothing has really leapt out at me for years.
There are different ways to set up class structures in society than just money. It's a sad fact but humans seem to feel the need to invent and maintain these kinds of divisions constantly. I'm sorry if I can't really share your particular utopian idealism here! (that must be some good music you're listening to ).
I do feel that Western cultures are changing somewhat in their attitude towards money/material stuff. The climate change issue along with other concerns has turned materialism into a bad thing- the opposite message to that which I grew up with in the 80s, which was that materialism/money/success was everything. Really, I find these media/socialisation cues just incredibly annoying. Better to just live your life and stop worrying so much about what the rest of the world thinks you should be doing. There will always be tensions between the individual and the larger community he/she is a part of. Intelligent people will find the balance.
I'm very much into classical music, but tend towards the more 20th C modern classical, and I prefer American 'New Music' over much of the traditional European Avante Garde, but that's just generally speaking.
What I really enjoy about this stuff is how radical it can be. We tend to think that radical music is something which probably happened along with and after rock n roll, but modern classical (since the beginning of last Century) is where you'll find some really thrilling, really extreme kinds of music, almost unimagined by a lot of newer bands that pass for radical musicians these days.
Anyway, here's a quick list (of some composers I like)-
The technology seems bizarre to me, a combination of laser scanning and live video footage? One thing I noticed was the sunlight (specular highlight) reflecting off the ground- a completely dynamic effect which changes depending on viewing angle. I have no idea how these details could be processed in the engine like that. It just seems crazy that what they're talking about could possibly work at all.
The original 'Thing', called 'The Thing from Another World' was on TV the other night. I didn't get to see all of it because I was busy, but it made me hunt out the updated John Carpenter version on You Tube. The remake is one of my favourite movies, a definite classic.
Also saw Up a few weeks back. I really enjoyed it but lost a bit of interest half way through the movie, perhaps because I was very tired. The short film preceding it was actually more fun than UP I thought- forget what it was called but it was the one with the stalks and cloud creatures. Fantastic!
I'm glad this is a recognised problem with the graphics. I've taken a few iRacing screens into photoshop, adjusted the contrast, and the image looks much much better.
I checked these out when I was researching ideas for animated sculptures for my major project at school this year. They are very beautiful. A simple idea with beautiful, complex results.
My cat pukes mainly because she's a guts when she eats, she eats way too fast. I've yet to see her throw up a hairball though... odd due to the amount of hair she releases around the house on a daily basis (which is reaching epic proportions). I feel itchy just sitting here, covered in cat hair!
Optimistically- you might see 1 track and one new car per year. No guarantees though... laser scanning may be a one off and Scavier may simply decide to throw in the towel at some point. There's no knowing for sure.
But don't count on things happening that were never promised or alluded to in the first place. That's just setting yourself (and other people) up for disappointment.
You can do this in LFS as well. I've spent a few times pushing the XFG into walls until the end result looks more like an abstract sculpture than a car. That's one thing I really love about the LFS damage system, and while the results sometimes seem to push realistic boundaries, not many games can actually do this. Of course we stills need breakable parts, a more complete audio system for different scrapes and crashes, and a few visual flourishes like scraping paint etc, but it's still a damn good system.
I prefer the Angry Video Game Nerd, he's less annoying than Yahtzee and he tends to review older, weirder games that nobody in their right minds would even bother with these days. Which is both noble, and pointless.
All my cats have liked to play fetch- also Android's right in that cats are a lot more subtle/speak a different language, but that language can be learned. I guess most non cat types imagine cats as being very un-engaged when it comes to people, but that's not the case at all. They're actually intensely curious about humans and human behaviour- my cat basically follows me around the house all day long.
I'd expect most people are more interested in actually having a shifting time of day rather than the static choices which exist at present- that means one would expect to see a number of improvements in the LFS lighting system if night racing were to become a possibility.
I was on LFS early this afternoon and it's really feeling, looking and sounding rather old and underwhelming to me. The old wisdom of 'having a break and coming back' isn't working personally, I think I've had enough of LFS in its current incarnation.
I wouldn't say most games (iRacing yes, a couple of track mods for rFactor, any others?)
I do think it will be used much more in the future though. Laser scanning certainly is no gimmick, it's a very powerful tool for recreating environments and objects inside a computer with a high degree of detail and precision. It's almost like science fiction. We have come a long way.
